Tips for When Your Pup’s Terrible Two’s Come A Little Early

Puppies crave discipline from an early age. To feel as if they are part of a pack, it is up to us to train and socialize them for both their benefit and our sanity! 

Here are 3 tips to get you started:

Puppy Tip #1:

Train 'Round the Clock

Start a daily routine as soon as you bring your puppy home. As the pack leader, it is important to remain consistent and establish a stable environment. Start with the simple things, like where your puppy’s food and water dishes are located, what times of day you will feed him, and his sleep and wake schedule. Reassure your puppy with an attitude of confidence and leadership throughout this entire process.

Puppy Tip #2:

Know Your ABC's of Training

At 2 to 3 months of age, your puppy should begin learning the basics. Perhaps the most important are verbal commands, like “no”, cueing your puppy to stop whatever he is doing, and “good”, a positive reinforcement. It is just as important to remain a calm, confident pack leader during this process.

Puppy Tip #3:

Own the Law of the Land

Set general ground rules within the first 2-3 months of your puppy’s life. Learning to respect you as the pack leader is important in establishing acceptance of basic house rules. A daily walk is a great way to reinforce your leadership role in the relationship.
