Supporting Our Heroes: Bil-Jac Celebrates Raising Over $1.25 Million for Disabled Veterans
Since 2010, Bil-Jac Super Premium Dog Food has been a proud partner of America’s VetDogs®, a non-profit organization that trains and provides assistance dogs to veterans and first responders with disabilities. Through the creation of two Bil-Jac products, America's VetDogs Soft & Moist Dog Treats and America’s VetDogs Training Treats, our incredible customers have helped us raise more than $1.25 million for America’s VetDogs.
Together, we continue to find ways to offer renewed independence and companionship to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for this country.
About America’s VetDogs
America’s VetDogs was founded in 2003 with one mission – to help those who have served our country honorably live with dignity and independence. It currently costs more than $50,000 to breed, raise, train, and place an assistance dog. The generosity of individuals, businesses, and community organizations allows America’s VetDogs to provide these services at no charge to United States veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disabilities.
Every purchase of Bil-Jac America's VetDogs Soft & Moist Dog Treats and America’s VetDogs Training Treats supports and aids the service dog programs at America's VetDogs.
“We’re truly grateful to have partners like Bil-Jac,” said John Miller, president and CEO of America’s VetDogs. “…we’re thrilled to offer consumers the same treats we use to train our dogs, which change the lives of veterans and first responders with disabilities.”
One Veteran is Joe Worley, a U.S. Navy medic who lost his leg in 2004 after being hit by an IED in Iraq. After returning home and recovering from numerous surgeries, the VetDogs team worked with Joe to find and train a furry friend to help him face his unique post-war challenges.
Benjamin, a lovable Golden Retriever, trained alongside his new pet parent at the America’s VetDogs Headquarters in Smithtown, NY before heading home to Georgia to help Joe with balance and mobility. The two quickly became a dynamic duo, and in 2015, Joe even joined the VetDogs staff as the veteran’s relations liaison to help other vets find their own Benjamin.
After 9 years of working together, Benjamin retired and Joe was teamed with his current service dog from America’s VetDogs – Galaxie, a yellow lab (pictured with Joe above). To honor Joe’s service in the Navy and all the work both he and Benjamin have done on behalf of America’s VetDogs, Joe and Benjamin have been featured on America’s VetDogs Skin & Coat Formula Soft Treats.
Every day, service dogs like Galaxie and Benjamin work to provide physical and emotional assistance to people with disabilities. Our America’s VetDogs Training Treats are used to train these incredible dogs so they can go on to become the four-legged heroes veterans like Joe depend on.
“We’ve loved supporting an organization as giving as America’s VetDogs, and it’s been a privilege to watch the organization grow throughout the years,” said Bil-Jac President Bob Kelly. “My father, Uncle Jack, and my Aunt Gene all served during WWII. My father and uncle founded Bil-Jac after returning from the war, so supporting veterans has always been a cause that’s near and dear to our hearts. By providing assistance dogs, VetDogs provides vital and unique services to our returning heroes, and we are proud to continue to support the wonderful work they do.”
