Exercise Needs

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffin needs plenty of room to run. This is not a dog that can be confined and is not suitable for an apartment, city living or sedentary owners. These dogs need a county setting in which to run. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffin does not do well in hot temperatures.

Grooming Needs

Bristly medium length double coat needs brushed twice per week. This breed is low shedding.

Temperament

Very active, friendly, intelligent, obedient, and easy to train. This breed is very people-oriented. It may bark or be destructive if left alone.

Compatibility with Kids

Good with kids. Supervision is recommended around young childern.

History

About 1870, Dutchmen tried to create a hunting dog that would be suited to very cold weather, wet ground and dense brush. Griffons were crossed with other sporting breeds to create this dog.
