Exercise Needs

The Welsh Springer Spaniel needs plenty of exercise. This breed is not happy if confined and will need room to run. This dog is generally not recommended for urban areas. The Welsh Springer Spaniel will become bored, lazy and overweight if not sufficiently exercised.

Grooming Needs

Your Welsh Springer Spaniel's ears need to be cleaned often. It's long, straight coat needs groomed several times a week, and trimmed 4 times per year. Trim excess feathering from feet and ears. This breed is an average shedding one. Bathe only if necessary.

Welsh Springer Spaniels are a friendly and easy-going breed.

Compatibility with Kids

Generally excellent with kids. Young dogs may be overly energetic for small children. Should be friendly with other animals, great family pet.

History

It is believed this breed is very ancient, however, there is no documentation of the breed till 1859. These dogs may be related to the Brittany Spaniel. It was used as a hunting dog in the Middle Ages and favored by wealthy Englishmen as an all-purpose hunter.
