The Stabyhound needs daily walks, romps or play sessions. This dog enjoys games such as fetch, frisbee, and field trial work.

The Stabyhoun is highly-trainable and eager-to-please, but requires consistency to learn obedience and tricks. This breed is extremely devoted and affectionate toward its family, but is wary of strangers. It interacts well with other pets.

Compatibility with Kids

This breed loves children and will play with them for hours. Very patient and good with kids of all ages. May become bored with kids that are not active.

History

Originally from Friesland in the northern part of the Netherlands, this breed is not common outside of Northern Europe. It is properly named for its characteristics: "Staby" comes from the Dutch phrase "sta me bij" ("stand by me") -- and "hoon" ("dog").
