While its origin is unknown, it is suspected that descendants of ancient Spitz breeds were brought to Jindo, an island located southwest of mainland Korea, by nomadic people. Over the centuries, Jindos bred only with other Jindos on the island. Once introduced to mainland Korea, however, Jindos were bred with other native dogs. The Jindo was only recently introduced to the U.S. through the immigration of Koreans. It is quickly gaining popularity due to its unique physical and behavioral qualities.
